Austrak welcomes new General Manager

August 28 2012

Austrak’s new General Manager, Chris Bailey, joins the business this month.

Chris joins Austrak from parent company, Laing O’Rourke, taking over from Acting GM Paul Hewitt.

Paul will continue in his role as Operations Manager, working with Chris and the Senior Executive team.

Chris began with Laing O’Rourke in 1998 and has held a range of project management and engineering roles.

A Chartered Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers, Chris has been based in Germany since 2010 where he has been the head of Naturstein Vetter GmbH, an international stone and quarrying business part-linked to the Laing O’Rourke Group.

He is looking forward to a new challenge in Australia.

“There is great opportunity in the concrete sleeper market right now, both here and abroad,” said Chris.

“The rail infrastructure sector in Australia is experiencing consistently strong demand, and there are significant growth opportunities in the Middle East and Africa. With our local factories and the new manufacturing facility in the UAE, Austrak is very well positioned to deliver large-scale projects anywhere in the world.”
