>> FACTORIES - MANUFACTURING PROCESS

Austrak's system is a long-line
method of making concrete sleepers.
In the system, a mould makes four sleepers side by side and a number
of these moulds (typically 40 to 80) are assembled end to end to
form a bed. The number of beds in a factory determines the production
rate and is designed according to the market's needs.
The process used to make the sleepers with the long-line system
is summarised briefly here:
- Bed preparation
- Prestressing
- Pour concrete
- Curing
- Destressing
- Cut sleepers
- Inspect, test and install
- Stockpile/loadout
