EPIC Agenda

Austrak implements sustainable practices through our EPIC Agenda – a range of documented and measurable programs developed to focus on four key areas - Environment, People, Industry and Community.

Some of our initiatives include:

Environment – Austrak is actively working to reduce our carbon footprint in our factories. We recently engaged GHD to undertake an environment audit at our Wedgefield plant in north Western Australia. Since that audit we have put in place measures to:

  • Recycle water
  • Recycle hydraulic oil using land farms
  • Reduce our energy consumption

These measures have led to a decrease in energy consumption of 3% and have reduced CO2 emissions by 3000 tonnes per year.

People – promote health and wellbeing at home and at work. The health and safety of our people is paramount, and an absolute necessity for the future sustainability of our business. To this end, we're committed to fostering an environment that provides our people with safe working conditions as well as the knowledge and awareness they need to maintain health and safety at home. Our factory employees undergo proven and well-established training to ensure quality, productivity and safety are of the highest standard. Our operational and management staff bring extensive experience to the business and a client-focused approach to each project.

Industry – changing the face of sleeper manufacturing worldwide. We have a responsibility to generate skilled tradespeople into the industry. This includes employment and fast tracking of apprentices, cadets and graduates as well as recognising the existing skill levels in our current workforce through competency analysis.

Communityworking openly and honestly with the communities in which we operate to leave a positive legacy. This program includes our work with the Red Cross Blood Service. We actively promote the service to the Australia-wide team and our donations have saved many lives. We also provide our staff with one day of paid Volunteer Leave, to work with the charity of their choice.
