Senior Victorian Government VIPs visit Austrak factory in Geelong and bring good news.

Victoria’s Industry, Energy and Resources Minister Lily D’Ambrosio and Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan visited Austrak’s Geelong factory yesterday to confirm Austrak has been awarded an $11 million contract to supply 125,000 concrete sleepers for the Murray Basin Rail Project. The sleepers are needed to commence Stage 2 of the project, which will re-open the Maryborough to Ararat line. When complete, the Murray Basin Rail Project will boost the safety, capacity and reliability of freight services in Northern Victoria, and better connect primary producers to the State’s major ports in Portland, Geelong and Melbourne. Austrak General Manager Chris Bailey hosted the Ministers in Geelong and welcomed the news that Austrak would play a part in the delivery of such an important project that will help meet the increasing demand for freight services in Victoria. “Work has already ramped up in our Geelong factory to ensure we meet the tight timeframes for delivery,” Chris said. “This win will see additional rosters and shifts added in the factory which will have a big impact on local wages.”
